Read More not working
  • Hi. Nice theme which seems easy to use however I am having a problem with "read more" I am using only pages as against posts but even on the home page I could not get the read more tag to display. I found a option on Wordpress forums recommending adding <?php global $more; $more = 0; ?> immediately after the "get posts" script in the Loop and this did make the "read more" appear in the text however the link from the read more goes nowhere so the rest of the text is not being found. The url displayed is http://repdomproperties.com/gocabrera/#more-2. I have permalinks set to "page title" if that makes any difference but works on all the pages correctly.

    Any suggested remedy greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Adrian

You are using a static page from your home page, so it won't work exactly the same way as a post. If you use the more tag to truncate the page, the read more link should appear and work properly.

  • I know the read more link should work, and it appears where placed in the text. Unfortunately the link from the this doesn't go anywhere and that is the problem. It doesn't even return a 404 just hangs!

It isn't hanging, the link is just adding a "#" to your URL. Are you using the more tag?

  • Yes for that reason I don't understand why it is adding the #

The code you have added just forces a link to appear. It is not actually a proper link to the page or post. I just don't think you can use a read more on pages.

My "read more" tags arent working either. I dont know what a more tag is. I dont know how to get it to show the entire post.

When you are in the post edit screen in wp-admin there is a more tag in the text editor toolbar. If you are in HTML view it is called More, in the Visual editor it is the icon that looks like a piece of paper split by a dashed line. It is near the right.

That tag will truncate your content and it should automatically add a more tag. But like I said, I don't know if that works for pages. If you set the front page to latest posts all the read more links will work.

Thanks. I found the "more" tag and inserted it where I needed it to continue on, but they still dont work. I have the front page set to latest post. Any more ideas? Thank you for your time.

It doesn't look like your front page is set to latest posts. You still just have a static page.

On the front page header I have "lastest story" selected. This is under layout settings. Am I in the wrong place?

This has nothing to do with the theme but with how you have configured WordPress. You need to go to the WordPress settings -> Reading page in wp-admin. Select "Latest Posts" instead of "Static Page" for your front page.

Links will not appear in the post excerpt. They are stripped. That is how WordPress does it. If you display the content your links will appear.
